Rolling Hills Hosts Teddy Bear Clinic

The Teddy Bear clinic rolled into Rolling Hills on Tuesday.
Staff and student nurses from Stony Brook Children’s Hospital visited kindergarten classes to teach about the importance of wearing helmets while riding bicycles and sitting in a rear seat and wearing seatbelts when in a vehicle.
The nurses — and prospective nurses — then helped the students put on protective gear including gloves and hair caps, as real hospital staff would do as a safeguard against germs. The students then diagnosed ailments with their teddy bears, and put on band-aids.
The importance of helmets was underscored as the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital nurses gave two students eggs — one wearing a protective “helmet” and the other without protection. When both students dropped their eggs, the one wearing the helmet remained intact.
